How many years?

In Dec 2024, I was at a book event. Imagine a large space, a stage, well-dressed people who live at the gym, sipping sparkling wines from slim crystal glasses. I wish! Instead, picture a mix of friends gathered in a downstairs room at someone’s house. It’s well-lit and more comfortable. There is wine, but most people are driving so the alcohol is probably for the host. I was speaking to someone who felt, not disappointed. Dissatisfied, perhaps, they didn’t have anything to show for 5 years of writing. 5 years you say? Well, let me tell you how long it took me.

The origins of my writing career are lost in the mists of time. The earliest recorded date I have is 2006. The date of publication: 2025. I see your 5 years and I raise you… and raise you. That said, when I started writing, it was a curiosity. It wasn’t till much later, I thought about being published.

What is the right amount of time to write a book? It takes as long as it takes. You may only have a few minutes spare in a busy day. It's your time, use it how you feel is best. If it matters to you, keep going.
